When living with an iPod or iPhone and you find you have a lot of storage left on your device wouldn’t it be nice if you could use that to backup your files automatically. With Clickfree you can do just that and much more easily than you might think. According to their site all you need to do is plug the device into a USB port on your Mac or PC and then plug your iPod or iPhone into the Clickfree device.
It then scans your computer for files you might want to backup and then backs up what it can to your iPod. The company says it never overwrites your existing music or files on your device and works without even touching it, hence the click-free part. The cost is $49.99 and if it works as it says it could be very valuable indeed, especially if you have an iPod Classic around with a lot of storage left over.

TORONTO – August 10, 2009 – Storage Appliance Corporation, developers of Clickfree Automatic Backup products, today announced another breakthrough product with the launch of its Clickfree Transformer for iPhone and iPod mobile digital devices and the Special Edition model, the Transformer SE. The new Transformers allow customers to backup their computer’s irreplaceable digital content onto excess storage space on their iPhone or iPod. These two new products can also be used to transfer music from any iPod or iPhone to your computer.
"From students to seniors, almost everyone owns an iPhone or an iPod these days, so why not make more use of the unused memory on these devices?" says Storage Appliance Corporation CEO, Bryan McLeod. "My 80 GB iPod has 40GB of music and photos – it still has over 40 GB of unused storage. Now I can maximize the extra storage by backing up my work and home computers. These Transformers are an inexpensive way to effortlessly backup your computer using devices you already own."
Customers can now easily backup their computer onto the extra storage space of any iPhone or iPod using the Clickfree Transformer. Simply connect your iPhone or iPod to the Clickfree Transformer, then connect it to your computer and backup will automatically begin. There is no software to install or setup and no manual to read. Only the excess capacity of your iPhone/iPod will be used, and existing content on your iPod/iPhone will never be overwritten.
The new Transformers will also allow customers to retrieve music collections back off their iPhone or iPod. So many customers have changed their computers, "orphaning" the content on the iPhone/iPod. With the new Clickfree Transformers, the content can be retrieved from the iPhone/iPod quickly and easily.
The Transformer SE, available next month, comes in a sleek piano black finish and has all the same functionality as the Transformer made for use with the iPhone/iPod. In addition, the Transformer SE also has the functionality of the award winning original Clickfree HD Transformer, which will work with any manufacturer’s external USB hard drive to deliver a fully automatic, no-click backup. Like all Clickfree products, there are no instructions to read, no copying and pasting of files and no software to install or setup.
Clickfree’s(TM) entire lineup of products, from the Clickfree(TM) Transformer for iPhone/iPod to Clickfree portable backup drives and DVDs, are designed for the 90 percent of computer users who, research shows, don’t get around to backing up their computers.
The Clickfree(TM) Transformer for iPhone/iPod has a retail price of $49.99 and the Transformer SE retails for $89.99. Both are now available directly from Clickfree www.clickfree.com.
Clickfree products can also be found at leading outlets such as Brandsmart, HH Greg, OfficeMax as well as on Amazon.com.

Apple has done it again. Just when you thought no company had a growing profit margin, Apple continues to steamroll expectations. The 3rd quarter profit of $1.23 billion is the most the company has ever made just outside of a holiday quarter ever.
During their quarterly conference call, Steve Jobs announced they had sold over 5.2 million iPhones in this quarter alone. Their profits continue to rise due to iTunes sales and the hugely successful App Store. Hopefully some companies have been taking note and can turn their companies around in the "squeezing of ones finances", time.
If you would like to listen to the conference call you can do so [here]

We knew a new iPod lineup or refresh was coming this september as usual. What we did not really know is that the lineup looks to include an iPod Touch that has a camera built in. This comes as no surprise as we always thought that Apple would add a camera to their iPod Touch line.
Techcrunch reported:
"One of our sources in Asia say that Apple has placed an order for a massive number of camera modules of the type that they include in the iPhone. These are inexpensive cameras, in the $10 range. And the size of the order, our source says, means they can only be used for one thing – the iPods."
The picture above comes from The AppleLounge who found this case at Deal Extreme.

By now most of us know that the Palm Pre syncs with iTunes, but the real question is how this is accomplished. Many have stated that they believe Apple and Palm have struck a deal to get this accomplished. According to John Johansen’s Blog this is not the case.
"So how has Palm most likely enabled the Pre to sync directly with iTunes? By doing the following:
- When you select “Media Sync” on the Pre, it will switch its USB interface to use Apple’s Vendor Id and the Product Id for a specific iPod model
- The Pre exposes a filesystem through Mass Storage Class that mimics the structure of an iPod
- The Pre responds to Apple’s custom USB command and returns XML info about the device
What can Apple do about this? When two parties implement an open standard, there’s usually some differences. In this case, there’s two implementations of a proprietary standard and it’s almost guaranteed that there will be differences. Apple will analyze the Pre and find out what those are. They will then be able to update iTunes to tell a real iPod apart from the “PrePod”."
While we all knew the Palm Pre has a very nice interface and the usability looks to be on the same level as the iPhone, the way to put media onto said device was the true differentiating factor. Others have tried to accomplish syncing with iTunes via third party software, but now that the Pre mimics an iPod and syncs directly to iTunes, it makes the Pre a true competitor to the iPhone in ever way. Competition is always a good thing and hopefully it causes Apple to take note and further innovate themselves while lowering the price to remain competitive. Only time will tell what the Pre is capable of and what SPrint could do to possibly emerge as a better carrier. We are betting the Pre really takes off once it moves to Verizon 6 or so months down the road.

With the buildup to WWDC long underway there have been a lot of rumors and not much in the way of new physicality. We have a couple new pictures of the bezel and internals from iphone-ticker.de. They do not show us a whole lot, but give us a few ideas about the next iPhone. iLounge broke down the visual information into what has changed from the current iPhone 3G.
"Notably, the bezels appear to show a repositioned and redesigned ear speaker, now significantly higher above the display than the present speaker, and ringed with metal, a change that may make room for additional front-mounted sensor or camera hardware. Also changed is the bezels color, which has shifted from the prior silver in all iPhone and iPhone 3G models to a nearly black metallic color reminiscent of the backs of later fifth-generation iPod U2 Special Edition models."
There you have it, more confirmation of slight changes to an ever growing populous of iPhone. Only a week or so from now we should know more.
