An american classic Top-Gun. A story of a daring young pilot who knows he’s the best and is out to prove it at the Navy’s prestigious fighter pilot school. Most of you have seen this film so most of this review will just be the transfer of the audio and video to blu-ray.

VISUAL – 6.5 out of 10.  The visual is very good , keeping in mind this movie was made in 1986. The best images are when the camera is in the cockpit , the picture is bright and vivid , the beads of sweat on the pilots face can even be seen. Aerial combat sequences are fantastic , the sky is luminous while every detail can be seen on the F-14 ‘s . There are some grainy parts but this transfer is very impressive for a 20 yr old film. Black levels are adequate but nothing off the charts.

SOUND – 8 out of 10.  This is where the film goes from 1986 to 2008 ! There are two top quality forms Dolby TrueHD 5.1 or if you have the capability DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1. My review is Dolby True HD, I assume 6.1 would be a little better. Fighter jets were always meant to be in lossless sound boys and girls and this movie does not disappoint. The engines will induce your sub to send out small earthquakes ! As the jets fly by they will use every inch of all your speakers. When maverick buzzes the tower if your holding a drink you will look just like the guy in the movie as you spill your drink all over yourself . You will be a little upset at first but then a smile will come over your face because ….this is what home theatre is all about !!

OVERALL – Top-Gun is a must have in anybody’s movie collection
