SLimtool 1.0 was just released.  "Did you know that a large amount of the space in your system that is being taken up by applications is being wasted? This is due to universal binary applications, created so that one application could run on both PowerPC and Intel systems. Slimtool lowers the size of apps down by stripping those unneeded architectures. With features like blacklisting and find and add (search hard drive for slimmable applications and adds them to the slim list), Slimtool is an easy to use and powerful tool."  In real testing I tried Slimtool  with Photoshop Elements6.  I was able to gain 35Mb of free space.  I then tested Photoshop Elements and have encountered no errors.  It appears Slimtool 1.0 works lik ti should without messing up and data.  If you are in need of more space on then you should try this out.
