  Toshiba has shown us a new technology that allows you to recharge your battery to 90% capacity in just 10 minutes.  The battery dubbed SCiB or "Super Charge ion Battery" is not yet available, but certainly could revolutionize the way we use our laptops and if it progresses, it could change the electric vehicle.  The possibilities are quite great and if battery life is at least that of current Lithium ion batteries then this technology could lead to a much brighter future.

Sprint’s XOHM WiMax Leaked

  Thanks to some people over at Engadget, we now have details of Sprint’s new WiMax Xohm service.   The speed is said to be a very respectable 2-4 Mbps.  The service is without a contract unlike many other on the go internet solutions.  The site says that the service is on "Your Terms" and you can pay by day or month with no cancellation fee.  This is all sounding too good to be true and it may be depending on price and coverage.

Apple Releasing Tethering App?

  A few weeks back Apple pulled Nullriver’s Netshare app from the iPhone app store.  This application allowed the use of the iPhone’s internet connection to be used to surf from a connected computer.  Today there is speculation that Apple could be releasing their own tethering app.  There were many a complaint about the removel of this app as there are many who would have purchased it.  Supposedly Steve Jobs himself (still alive) chose to respond to these complaints, writing: "We agree, and are discussing it with AT&T."

Silver-Zinc Batteries for Your Portables Next Year

ZPower is a company which will provide Silver-Zinc batteries for all your portable needs.  The company said they were demoing the technology at the 2008 Intel Developer Forum.  "According to the company, Silver-Zinc can offer up to 40% more runtime than today’s batteries."  The contents of the batteries are said to be more stable than lithium-ion which will hopefully result in far less explosions and fires caused by lithium-ion.

Intel Working on Wireless Recharging

  Intel is working on wireless recharging for gadgets, laptops, etc.  The idea would be to have your gadget near the charging point but you would not need any ac adapter.  Intel states "it can broadcast up to 60 watts of power two to three feet with only a 25% loss."  Hopefully in a couple years we will be charging everything universally via wireless.  Check out the full story for the details.
