Apple Q2 2009 – Most Profitable Ever

 

  While most companies have an issue of profitability and the ongoing slump of sales, Apple has been having the reverse happen as of late.  During their quarterly financial briefing, Apple posted record profits for March with $1.21 billion in profit for a grand total of $8.16 billion in revenue.  While many people have thought Apple products to be too pricey, it appears one too many people have wanted to move away from the tired hassle of Windows and move on to the more stable and design-conscience Mac, iPod and iPhone.    Ok, well Mac sales were down, but the iPod sales made up for it.  If you want the full press release and a breakdown of profits, head over and check it out for yourself.

EMI Gives iTunes Its First Subscription Service – iTunes Pass

 

  For those of us who know all about music passes and have longed for such a service in iTunes, the beginning has just begun.  EMI has a launched a short-term subscription service that allows continuous content to be downloaded from Depeche Mode until June 16th 2009.  Apple has named this service "iTunes Pass" allowing its subscribers to get regular downloads of those they get a pass from.

Macworld 2009 To Be Apple’s Last

 

  In a very surprising announcement, Apple will forego Macworld Expo via a press release today.  Philip Schiller will be delivering the keynote in favor of Steve Jobs.  According to Apple, "Apple has been steadily scaling back on trade shows in recent years, including NAB, Macworld New York, Macworld Tokyo and Apple Expo in Paris."  Does this mean it is also the last year for Jobs?  This is quite a shock as Macworld has been a major show for Apple for years.  Lets hope they have some interesting news at Macworld 2009 and plans to do something different.

iPhone Firmware 2.2 To Come on November 21st?

 

  Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information press release has annoucned that the eagerly awaiting iPhone firmware 2.2, will be released tommorow on November 21st.  This firm claims the release of the update due to a security hole which allows anyone with simple "HTML" knowledge to compromise the security of the iPhone.  We will just have to wait and see if the update comes as Fraunhofer says.  We certainly hope so, the new podcasting feature and Google street view continues to add to the greatness we all currently experience, assuming you own an iPhone, or maybe you will go the way of the storm, which is also due out on the 21st.

Zune 3.0 Coming This Fall

  

  Microsoft just published its official press release about the new Zune’s and the update coming this fall.  The new update allows you to buy music directly from the FM radio built in every Zune.  The new Zune software will create custom channels for each user, based on favorite artists and genres and also learns what you like and provides suggestions and playlists for the user.  The last and most important to Zune users should be they will finally support Audible audio books.  This is good news for the few that have them and adds some interesting features that could be the deciding factor over an iPod, at least for some.
