As many of you know it has been a few days since Steve Jobs, Co-Founder of Apple passed away. While there will be tribute and many kind words on everything from television, websites and radio, I wasn’t sure what to say. I never knew Steve or anyone who actually knew him personally. What I did know was the products he helped create, and the philosophy of Apple. To this I will base my short tribute to Steve Jobs.
Steve has inspired me to look at products as an extension of myself. Will the product not only look good and serve my needs, but will it perform as well as or better than I myself could make it? Will the product, “just work” and allow me to do my work without thinking about keeping that product working properly? Apple’s company philosophy through Steve, of working outside the box, not seeing life as others, and being unique, feels as though it is an extension of myself. This is why I choose Apple. Through those ways of being and products that are released when only being better than acceptable, is how Steve’s legacy will live on for myself and many others.
Many thanks to Steve Jobs for the great products I have had the privilege to experience through Apple. His legacy will live on as he has shown myself and others that it is insanely great to Think Different.
Our prayers and thoughts go out to his family and friends. You will be missed.
I talk about the pre-order experience of the iPhone 4S and give a little background history on Siri. Comment below if you were able to pre-order late last night without a problem or what your experience was.
The iPad 2 just came out here an hour and-a-half ago and iFixit has begun to tear into Apple’s latest tablet to bring us all the goodness found inside. While the tear-down is not yet complete, iFixit has been kind enough to share with us the beginnings of their guide. Check it out at the link below.
Apple, as expected has announced the yearly update to its newest product line, the iPad 2. The iPad 2 is thinner, lighter, has 2 cameras, one in front and one back and has a dual-core A5 processor. Apple says the graphics chip in iPad 2 is up to 9 times as fast as the previous generation. Prices start at $499 and have the same pricing scheme as the previous generation iPad resulting in Wifi only models and some with both Wifi and 3G. There are also different models for AT&T and Verizon, not a dual setup as previously thought to work on both networks with the same model. You can get your hands on one March 11th.
The MacBook Pro family has been in need of a refresh for some time now and Apple has finally made available one impressive array of updates. To start with all MacBook Pros now come with an Intel Core i5 or i7 Sandy Bridge processor. You have a choice of up to 2.2Ghz with a burst or turbo mode of up to 3.4Ghz when needed. Gone are the NVIDIA graphics processors in favor of Intel integrated graphics and AMD HD graphics GPU’s for the 15 and 17 inch MacBook Pros. The 15 inch MacBook Pro now comes with only two options of Core i7 processors starting at 2.0Ghz and giving you the option of a 2.2Ghz Core i7 with an AMD Radeon 6750M graphics, and 750GB hard drive. Prices range from $1199 for the 13inch MacBook up to $2199 for the aforementioned 15-inch MacBook Pro. If you opt for the larger 17-inch model you get basically the same specs, but will be paying $2499 for the larger display.
Included in the MacBook Pro refresh are quite a number of other upgrades. The first of which many sites rumored for the past week of a technology called Thunderbolt. This is a Disk I/O that allows up to 10GB per second of transfer when you have a drive that is so equipped. Apple has turned the iSight or what is now referred to as the Facetime camera into a 720P HD image capturer to make your video calls more clear than ever. There are more updates as well so head on over to Apple to check them out.
